Aubregrinia taiensis is a large tall tree that can grow up to 45m tall (Photo1). A. taiensis has a straight bole, almost cylindrical but slightly fluted at the base. The tree has low buttresses (Photo 2), rough bark with vertical fissures. A bark slash of the tree exudes a pale orange to cream latex with whiter stripes (photo 3).
The leaves of A. taiensis are simple alternate, with petiole length ranging between 2cm- 4cm long. Leaf venation is more conspicuous and prominent when dried. Leaf length ranges from of 8–25 cm long, looking narrowly to broadly obovate at the end. The flowers of A. taiensis are small and located in leaf axis (image2). Flowers are dioecious (unisexual flowers), with 5 free sepals and broad corolla. Flower apical bud are orange-brown and hairy. During peak flowering, flowers are more conspicuous; rising above the leaf axils.
Fruits of A. taiensis are apple-sized; appearing green initially and becoming yellowish when matured. It has an average fruits size of about 8 × 6.5 cm with 8-lobed. There are 7 or 8 shiny seeds in internal fruit lobes; a key morphological trait distinguishing the species from Chrysophylium unbanguanse (a closely related species); which always has 3-5 seed lobes (compartments) in the fruits.
